DURHAM, N.C. – Duke track & field has announced more additions to the 2021-22 class, as it welcomes three men's distance runners to Durham.
Conor Bohrer,
Brooks Harlan and
Beck Wittstadt will join the Blue Devils cross country and track & field teams in the fall.
The trio is set to join incoming transfer
Nick Dahl as new additions to the men's unit. Four freshmen;
Hope Frost,
Katie Hamilton,
Presley Miles and
Samantha Wallenstrom, and one transfer;
Melia Chittenden, have already been announced as incoming members of the 2021-22 women's distance unit.
"We have a strong group of individuals joining us this fall," said Head Coach of Men's and Women's Cross Country
Angela Reckart. "We look forward to having them become a part of the Duke family and to have them continue to grow and develop to leave their mark on this program."
Conor Bohrer
Coming to Durham via Cincinnati, Ohio, Bohrer leads off the 2021 men's distance class. A critical piece of St. Xavier's cross country and track & field units, Bohrer helped lead the cross country team to an Ohio state championship in 2019 and a runner up finish in 2020. An All-Ohio honoree, Bohrer turned in numerous strong performances in the Ohio high school circuit, including as the regional runner in 2020 and fourth place finishes at OHSAA state meets in cross country and the 3200m in track & field. Bohrer brings a strong academic background as well, after serving a National Honor Society president.
Brooks Harlan
Hailing from Centralia, Ill., Harlan joins the Blue Devil distance unit with a strong pedigree of success from Centralia High School. Harlan was the 2019 Illinois Indoor 1600m State champion and is a two-time IHSA Sectional champion. He also has tallied five South Seven Conference titles and is a three-time IHSA All-State honoree. Harlan has clocked in personal bests of 4:15.51 in the mile, 9:25.35 in the 3200m and 15:12.69 in his cross country tenure. A gifted student, Harlan graduated as his school's valedictorian and is a National Honor Society member.
Beck Wittstadt
A native of Baltimore, Md., Wittstadt rounds out the incoming class of men's distance runners following a decorated high school tenure at the Gilman School. Wittstadt is a three-time MIAA individual track champion and 2019 runner up in cross country and has been named to three Baltimore Sun All-Metro teams. A seven-time MIAA All-Conference selection, Wittstadt served as captain of units that won three indoor and outdoor track & field championships and the 2019 Maryland Private School Cross Country title. He is also the winner of several school and area awards, including the Donald Hoffman Memorial Cross Country Award, the Alfred H. Weems Jr. Memorial Track Award, The Gilman School Indoor Track Award and The Gilman Triple Threat Award. Wittstadt has notched personal bests of 1:53.63 in the 800m and 4:13.84 in the mile.
