DURHAM, N.C. – Duke swimming and diving head coach
Dan Colella announced the incoming freshman class for the 2021-22 season. With the announcement, GoDuke.com will be highlighting all 12 signees in the coming weeks.
Michael Jiang will join the Duke swimming & diving program in the fall after graduating from Forest Park High School. The Woodbridge, Va., native primarily competes in the distance freestyle and individual medley events.
"Duke was the perfect choice for both athletics and academics," Jiang said. "In addition to being perfectly balanced, the team was so welcoming and I knew this was where I wanted to be."
Jiang was tabbed the 12th-ranked recruit out of the state of Virginia by swimcloud.com. He was a Junior Nationals and NCSA qualifier. Jiang competed for Nation's Capital Swim Club under coach Jeremy Linn. He was also a seven-time Potomac Valley SC Senior Championships Finalist.
On the high school scene, Jiang was a two-time Scholastic All-American at Forest Park under head coach Julie Denard. In addition, he was a three-time finalist at the Virginia 6A State Championships.
Out of the pool, Jiang was a member of National Honor Society, National History Honor Society and was named to the Principal Honor Roll.
Jiang was born on March 2, 2003, to parents Jin Chen and Bin Jiang. He has one older sister, Judy.
