DURHAM, N.C. – Duke track & field graduate student
Connor Atkinson is set to take part in the Jamaican Olympic Trials beginning Thursday at the National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica.
Â
Atkinson will compete in the 400m hurdles of the Jamaican Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) National Senior Championships, with opening heats scheduled for 6:40 p.m. ET, on Thursday. Should Atkinson advance, he would compete in the final heat on Friday at 8:15 p.m. ET.
Â
2020 was a breakout season for the Ashburn, Va., native, who won a bronze medal in the 400m hurdles at the ACC Outdoor Championships to take home All-ACC First Team honors. His run of 51.14 seconds set the second fastest time in program history and the fastest mark since
Jesse Allen ran a 49.42 in 1999.
Â
Atkinson earned berths in the 400m hurdles and 4x400m relay at the NCAA East Regional earlier this season. He finished 16th in the 400m hurdles and 17th in the 4x400m relay in his first NCAA East Regional as a Blue Devil. Those marks secured him the first and second best finishes, respectively, among all Blue Devil men at the regional this season.
Â
Atkinson enters Thursday's trails as one of three collegians in the field, joining Texas A&M Corpus-Christi's Leonardo Ledgister and St. Thomas's Marvin Williams.
