OMAHA, Neb. – Duke swimming alumnus
Ashley Twichell advanced to the finals of the 1,500-meter freestyle on Tuesday morning in Wave II of the U.S. Olympic Team Trials at the CHI Health Center in Omaha, Neb.
Twichell, who graduated in 2011 from Duke with a degree in psychology, placed third in the opening preliminaries of the 1,500m freestyle with a time of 16:03.39. The 31-year-old distance swimmer swam in her first vent of the trials on Monday, placing eighth (4:10.51) in the morning preliminaries of the 400m freestyle to reach the final. Heading into the night session, Twichell made the decision to scratch the final to focus on the 1,500 the following morning.
In addition to Twichell's 1,500m final in the evening session, current Blue Devil
Brendan Driscoll will make his Olympic Team Trials debut in the 800m freestyle during the morning session.
