DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke women's lacrosse team earned the No. 7 seed and will take on Mount St. Mary's in first round action Friday, May 14 of the 2021 NCAA Women's Lacrosse Tournament at Koskinen Stadium in Durham, N.C. The contest is slated for 3 p.m., on ESPN+.
The Blue Devils (9-7) and the Mountaineers (14-2) will square off Friday at Koskinen Stadium before reigning National Champion Maryland (9-6) and High Point (10-7) will face off at 7 p.m., with the advancing teams playing on Sunday in Durham at 1 p.m.
Duke and Mount St. Mary's will meet for the first time in program history as the Mountaineers enter the contest with a 14-2 overall record out of the ECAC.
Duke makes its 20th NCAA Tournament appearance and the first time since 2016. The Blue Devils own a 24-19 overall record on the big stage that includes 15 quarterfinal and seven semifinal appearances. Duke last made the semifinals in 2015 and owns an 11-game win streak in first round games.
Under head coach
Kerstin Kimel, Duke has produced 19 tournament appearances and reached the semifinals four times (2005-2008). The Blue Devils have reached the quarterfinals in 11 of their last 12 appearances and the semifinals in six of their last 12.
Tickets are not on sale for the general public.
The championship provides for a field of 29 teams to compete in a single-elimination tournament. Sixteen conference champions qualify automatically; the balance of the field is selected at-large by the NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse Committee. The top eight teams in the 29-team bracket for the championship are seeded. The top three teams receive first-round byes.
