The Opening Faceoff
- No. 2 seed Duke advanced to an NCAA semifinal for the 13th time in program history with a 10-9 overtime win against Loyola last Sunday. The Blue Devils are 6-6 all-time in semifinal games and will meet Maryland for the seventh time in NCAA Tournament history.
- Brennan O'Neill had four goals and an assist, including the game- tying goal, while Joe Robertson scored the winner and finished with three goals and four points overall. Jake Naso won 14-of-22 faceoffs and picked up nine ground balls. JT Giles-Harris had three caused turnovers, while Tyler Carpenter had two and five ground balls. Mike Adler had eight saves.
- Sunday's matchup will be the seventh game against a top-five team and a rematch of the 2018 NCAA semifinal game won by Duke.

NCAA Tournament Notes
- Duke earned its 24th appearance in the NCAA Tournament and 14th consecutive. Duke's 14 straight berths in the tournament are third behind Maryland's 18 and Notre Dame's 15. The Blue Devils have advanced to 13 NCAA semifinals and in 11 of the past 14 tournaments.
- The Blue Devils are a top-eight seed for the 20th time and are the No. 2 seed for the third time in program history. Duke has earned one of the top-three spots in the bracket eight times. The Blue Devils were the No. 2 seed in 2005 and 2019.
- Duke is 5-1 in overtime NCAA Tournament games and 4-1 under John Danowski.
- Duke has won 34 of its past 45 NCAA playoff games. Three of the losses came against Johns Hopkins in the 2005 and 2007 title games and the 2008 semifinals.

Only nine current Blue Devils played in that game, while only six current Maryland players stepped on the field in that game.
- Jared Bernhardt had two goals in the game, but a 6-0 run by the Blue Devils to start the game proved to be too much to overcome. Duke's defense held the Terrapins to just 28 shots on the afternoon despite winning 10-of-25 faceoffs.
Scouting Maryland
- Maryland is the lone undefeated team in the nation, rolling through its Big Ten regular season slate with a 10-0 mark before winning twice to take home the Big Ten Tournament Championship.
- The Terrapins feature the nation's second ranked offense, averaging 16.07 goals per game. They edged Notre Dame in overtime, 14-13, with Anthony DeMaio scoring the winning goal.
- Jared Bernhardt, the USILA National Player of the Year, leads the high-powered offense with 64 goals and 23 assists for 87 points. Logan Wisnauskas has 34 goals and 63 points, while Daniel Maltz is third at 48 points. Maryland also ranks second nationally with 9.64 assists per game.
- Defensively, the Terrapins are allowing 10 goals per game to rank 11th nationally. They've held six opponents to single digits this season and Nick Grill helps anchor the defensive effort with 18 caused turnovers and 40 ground balls. Brett Makar has 14 and 36, respectively. In goal, Logan McNaney has started every game and owns a 9.78 goals against average and a .513 save percentage. He is averaging 10 saves per game.
- At the faceoff dot, Justin Shockey has taken the majority of faceoffs and sports a .518 win percentage (115-222). Luke Wierman is 72-of-161 (.447).
What Gives?
- Saturday's game will feature two of the nation's top scoring offenses against the two top defensive units. Maryland is scoring 16.07 goals per game, while Duke is allowing just 10.00. The Terrapins have a .393 shooting percentage, but Duke is holding its opponents to .266 shooting.
- Individually, Jared Bernhardt currently leads the nation in points per game (6.21) and in goals (4.57/gm). He has at least three goals in 12 of the 14 games. He has 12 games with at least five points.
- In comparison, Duke's defense has allowed an individual player to score six or more points twice and five points three times. The most goals scored by a Blue Devil opponent this season has been four – Evan James of Loyola, Chase Scanlan of Syracuse, Pat Kavanagh of Notre Dame and Corson Kealey from Robert Morris.

Special Teams Are Special
- Duke's special teams have been consistent all season and exceptional in the past four games. Since holding the then top-ranked extra-man offense of Notre Dame to 1-of-4, Duke has allowed just two man-up tallies on eight opportunities for a .750 success rate.
- On man-up against the Irish that game, the Blue Devils made the one penalty Notre Dame committed count as they scored the game winner. The Irish entered the contest with a 67 percent success rate on man-down.

Tyler Carpenter Has the Scoop
- Sophomore defenseman Tyler Carpenter has been tremendous off the ground for Duke. The native of Durham, N.C., has 70 ground balls in his 16 games. He has picked up at least four in 13 of the 16 outings and recorded five in both NCAA Tournament games.
- Against Loyola, Carpenter plucked the ball out of the air in the final faceoff in the fourth quarter to help Duke force overtime and then made the interception that led to the winning possession.
- Carpenter is second among non-faceoff specialists in ground balls in the ACC and sixth nationally.
