NCAA INDIVIDUAL CHAMPIONSHIPS HISTORY
After last season's tournament was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Chen and Chi will make their returns to the event, while Beck, Berankova, Bilokin and Drummy will make their debuts. Chi will make her debut in the doubles tournament after three previous appearances in the singles event, while Chen returns to the singles draw for the third time.
Chen will look to replicate the success of the 2019 singles event, in which the Cerritos, Calif., native reached the semifinals. Chen unseated two top-10 opponents before falling to No. 2-seeded Katerina Jokic (Georgia) 7-5, 6-2, becoming the second Blue Devil to reach that stage in the last eight seasons.
FAMILIAR FOES
Bilokin and Chi have been drawn to face a familiar foe in their opening doubles match, as they will face Wake Forest's Carolyn Campana/Eliza Omirou. Bilokin/Chi handily dispatched their opponents earlier in the year, defeating them, 6-0, on April 18 to help jump start a 5-2 victory for the Blue Devils on senior day.
Chen is also set to match up against an opponent with Blue Devils history, as she will face UCLA's Jada Hart in the opening round. Hart took down Chi in the opening round of the 2019 singles draw and will now face Chen, who has defeated 43 ranked opponents over her Duke tenure.
EYES ON ORLANDO
The Blue Devils season continues in the 2021 NCAA Singles Championship and Doubles Championships. The Blue Devils are in search of their first individual champion since
Mallory Cecil won in 2009 and the first doubles champion in program history, having previously sent four separate duos to the national semifinals.
DUKE IN THE INDIVIDUAL RANKINGS
Duke features four ranked student-athletes in singles – Drummy (19), Beck (39), Chi (40) and Chen (49). The Blue Devils also feature six doubles teams on the national list – Beck/ Berankova are No. 9, Bilokin/Chi at No. 10, Drummy/Berankova (No. 37), Chen/Drummy (No. 41), Beck/Chi (No. 50) and
Hannah Zhao/Chi (No. 58).
CHI MOVING UP WINS LIST
A product of Weston, Fla., Chi ends her collegiate career with 136-38 all-time singles mark, which leaves her in sole possession of fourth place on Duke's all-time wins list.
Chi owns a 232-78 combined singles and doubles wins over her Duke career, which ranks fourth on Duke's all-time charts. To reach third place, she will have to collect four more victories to tie Zsilinszka (236).
CHEN VERSUS RANKED
Over her four seasons with the Blue Devils, Chen has collected a 107-35 singles record. Of the 107 wins, 43 of them have come against ranked opponents. Chen's 107 career wins currently ranks 19th on the Duke charts and she will move into a tie for 18th along with Amanda Granson (108) with one more victory.
ALL-ACC HONORS
The Blue Devils were well-represented in the last group of All-ACC honorees, as the league announced that Beck, Chen and Drummy were named to the second team, while Chi earned third team accolades. Beck and Drummy earned the first All-ACC honors of their collegiate careers, while Chen was named to list for the third time. Chi became just the 15th player in Blue Devils history to earn four separate All-ACC honors.
