NOBLESVILLE, Ind. – Freshman
Ian Siebers carded a second-round 3-under 69 to pace the Duke men's golf team on Tuesday as the NCAA Noblesville Regional continued at the Sagamore Club in Noblesville, Ind.
With a one-over 289 as a team on Tuesday, the Blue Devils shaved 16 strokes off their Monday score, led by the 69 from Siebers and an even-par 72 from senior
Adrien Pendaries. Duke jumped one spot into 10th place at 18-over par through 36 holes.
Wednesday's final round begins at 8:55 a.m., with Texas leading the tournament at 15-under par, followed by Tennessee (-8), North Carolina (-7), Louisville (-6) and North Florida (-3) to round out the top five. The five low scoring teams, plus the lowest scoring individual not from a top-five team, will advance to the NCAA Championship.
The 3-under round for Siebers on Tuesday was highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 seventh hole, his 16th hole of the day after starting his round on the 10th tee. Following his 75 on Monday, Siebers stands at even par 144 through 36 holes and is tied for 19th on the individual leaderboard -- jumping 22 spots.
"I felt like a I played well today," said Siebers. "I hit the ball well. I had a lot of good iron shots on approaches into the greens and I scrambled pretty well. I have a lot of confidence going into tomorrow and hopefully can make a few more putts."
The freshman from Bellevue, Wash., who earned All-ACC honors this season, Siebers kicked started his round with a scrambling birdie on the 12th hole (his third of the day) by holing out for birdie from the greenside bunker. He also carded birdies on the par-5 14th and the par-5 second hole, in addition to his eagle.
Pendaries also closed strong on Monday, rolling in an eagle putt on the par-5 18th hole (his ninth of day), and coming home with three birdies over his final eight holes to sign for a 72. His two-round total of four-over 148 has him tied for 45th.
Senior
Evan Katz shot a one-over 73 on Tuesday, while graduate student
Steven DiLisio shot 75. Both Katz and DiLisio are tied for 55th at eight-over 152, while senior
Qi wen Wong is a shot back on the leaderboard after a 77 Monday and a 76 on Tuesday.
UNC Wilmington's Blake McShea and North Florida's Nick Infanti are tied for the 36-hole lead at six-under par, one stroke clear of the field.
For Wednesday's final round, Duke is again paired with UT-Martin and Campbell and the groups are off the 10
th tee beginning at 8:55 a.m.
