LOUISVILLE, Ky. – For the first time in program history, the 21st-ranked Duke softball team are ACC Champions as the Blue Devils picked up a 1-0 shutout against No. 13 Clemson in the ACC Championship Final Saturday afternoon at Ulmer Stadium.
In a pitcher's duel, the third-seeded Blue Devils (42-10) scored one run on an RBI groundout in the sixth inning for the game-winning run versus the No. 2 Tigers (42-6).

Shelby Walters threw a gem, starting the game and tossing five complete frames in which she allowed three hits and tallied three strikeouts for her 17th win of the 2021 campaign. Entering in the top of the sixth, senior
Peyton St. George was lights out and retired all six batters faced. She collected a trio of strikeouts, sitting down the Clemson side in the sixth, and collected her fourth save this season.
The Blue Devils stranded runners in both the second and fifth innings, including a pair in the fifth. Freshman
Kelly Torres garnered Duke's first hit of the contest, doubling to left field in the top of the second. In the fifth, junior
Kristina Foreman was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Junior
Caroline Jacobsen was intentionally walked, putting two runners on for senior pinch hitter
Sydney Bolan, but a strikeout would end the Blue Devils' scoring opportunity.
Duke broke up the scoreless ballgame in the sixth, beginning with a leadoff single from junior
Deja Davis. Davis hit a pop-up that dropped just fair of the first base line for a single. Following a stolen base by Davis, sophomore
Gisele Tapia drew a seven-pitch walk and both runners advanced on another wild pitch. Sophomore
Kamryn Jackson sent an RBI groundout to shortstop, scoring Davis for the game-winning tally.
St. George headlined the 2021 ACC Softball Championship All-Tournament Team as she was voted MVP. Joining her was Foreman, Tapia and Walters.
The Blue Devils will their NCAA Regional destination tomorrow with the NCAA Selection Show at 9 p.m. on ESPN2. Duke, who earned the ACC automatic qualifier, will play in its first NCAA Tournament.
