The Opening Faceoff
- Duke finished the regular season 12-2 and shared the ACC crown with North Carolina. The Blue Devils are making their 24th NCAA appearance and earned the No. 2 overall seed for the third time in program history. Sunday will be Duke's first game since May 2.
- Michael Sowers recorded a goal and six assists, while Dyson Williams and Brennan O'Neill both had hat tricks in a 15-12 setback at North Carolina. Duke outscored the Tar Heels in three of the four quarters, but a 7-0 second quarter won by UNC proved to be the difference.
- Sunday's matchup will be the seventh straight game against a top 20 team after the Blue Devils faced a top five squad in six straight weeks. It will be the first time these two teams meet in postseason action.
- Duke is 9-2 overall in first-round games and 5-2 all-time as the No. 2 seed. The Blue Devils also were the No. 2 seed in 2005 and 2019, reaching the NCAA title game and the NCAA semifinal, respectively.
- High Point earned the automatic bid as winners of the Southern Conference after beating Richmond 11-8 in the conference title game last week. The Panthers are 8-5 and winners of five straight after starting the season with four setbacks to North Carolina (twice), Duke and Virginia.

NCAA Tournament Notes
- Duke earned its 24th appearance in the NCAA Tournament, and 14th consecutive. Duke's 14 straight berths in the tournament are third behind Maryland's 18 and Notre Dame's 15.
- The Blue Devils are a top eight seed for the 20th time and are the No. 2 seed for the third time in program history. Duke has earned one of the top three spots in the bracket eight times. The Blue Devils were the No. 2 seed in 2005 and 2019.
- Duke is 4-1 in overtime NCAA Tournament games and 3-1 under John Danowski.
- Duke has won 32 of its past 43 NCAA playoff games. Three of the losses came against Johns Hopkins in the 2005 and 2007 title games and the 2008 semifinals.
- Overall, the Blue Devils are 33-11 in NCAA action when scoring at least 10 goals and 1-9 when held to single digits.

Danowski in NCAA Tournament
- John Danowski has led the Blue Devils to 14 straight NCAA appearances and currently is tied with three active coaches - Bill Tierney (Princeton, 1990-04) and Kevin Corrigan (Notre Dame, 2006-P) - with a streak of 15 consecutive NCAA berths.
- A Danowski led team has appeared in 22 NCAA postseasons, eight at Hofstra and 14 at Duke. He is 33-18 all-time in NCAA Tournament action and currently ranks fourth in the records books in overall wins. Tierney leads the way with 44.
All-ACC Honors
- Freshman Brennan O'Neill was named the ACC Freshman of the Year as Duke landed five players on the 19-man All-ACC team this season.
- Representing the Blue Devils are Michael Sowers and O'Neill at attack, Nakeie Montgomery at midfield, JT Giles-Harris at defense and Mike Adler in goal. Duke and North Carolina tied for the lead with five selections apiece. It is the second award for Giles-Harris, while the remaining four garnered their first nod.
- O'Neill is the sixth Blue Devil to earn ACC Freshman of the Year honors and the first since Justin Guterding in 2015. The five honorees are tied for the most in program history, matching the 2005, 2017 and 2018 teams.
Last Time We Met
- Duke and High Point meet two months after the regular season meeting in which the Blue Devils dominated the Panthers, 27-8. Twelve different Duke players scored goals in the game and 18 had at least one point.
- The Blue Devils used a 14-0 run over a span of 19:03 in the first and second quarter to break open the game. Mike Adler had eight saves and allowed just four goals as Duke held the Panthers scoreless for 20:52.
Breaking Down the Blue Devils
- Michael Sowers is the top scorer with 67 points (30g, 37a), while Joe Robertson has 49 (33, 16) in his 12 games. Brennan O'Neill owns a team-high 38 goals and 46 points. Nakeie Montgomery (14, 20) has 34. Twenty-two different players have scored at least one goal and 11 have at least five goals.
- Like on offense, Duke has depth on defense with four talented short stick midfielders in Terry Lindsay, Jake Caputo, Blake Leischow and Matt Chmil and two experienced goaltenders – Mike Adler and Turner Uppgren. The close defense is anchored by All-American JT Giles-Harris, senior Raines Shamburger, who stepped up against Notre Dame and sophomore Kenny Brower. Tyler Carpenter and Braden Burke are Duke's leaders at LSM. Duke's scoring defense is second in the ACC and 17th nationally. Carpenter also can play down low, leaving Will Frisoli to play as a pole.
Scouting High Point
- High Point enters the NCAA Tournament on a hot streak of six straight wins. The Panthers are 8-5 overall and defeated Richmond, 11-8, in the Southern Conference Tournament title game to earn the automatic bid. High Point last lost March 26 at Richmond. The other four losses for the Panthers came against ACC squads.
- Asher Nolting headlines the offense with 26 goals and 42 assists for 68 points. Kevin Rogers has a team-best 36 goals and 47 points, while Brayden Mayea has 35 markers. High Point has scored in double digits in all but one game - the regular season meeting with the Blue Devils. Nolting ranks third nationally in assists per game, while Rogers is 17th in goals per game. Mayea is shooting an impressive .479, the ninth best percentage in the country.
- Defensively, High Point is giving up 13.69 goals per game to rank 54th in the country in scoring defense. However, since giving up 27 to Duke in March, the Panthers sport a 10.00 goals against average. They have held teams to under 10 goals in four of their previous six outings. Grant Ammann has a team-best 11 caused turnovers and 32 ground balls. Clayton Krol is just behind him with 10 takeaways and three goals to go along with that.
- At the X, Davis Sampere and Collin Hoben have split the duties evenly. Sampere is 77-of-158 (.487) with 46 ground balls, while Hoben is 82-of-152 with 41 GBs.
- In goal, Parker Green has started 10 games and sports an 11.88 goals against average and a .504 save percentage. He is averaging 10.64 saves per game.

- The winning team advances to play either Denver or Loyola in the quarterfinal round at Notre Dame. Those games are slated for Sunday, May 23 at Arlotta Stadium.
