MILTON, Ga. – Paced by a 5-under day from freshman
Ian Siebers, the Duke men's golf team opened the 2021 ACC Championship Friday at the Capital City Club's Crabapple Course in Milton, Ga. The Blue Devils are in seventh as a team through 36 holes of stroke play.
The teams are set for the final 18 holes of stroke play on Saturday before match play begins on Sunday. The individual ACC champion will be crowned on Saturday.
Siebers is in position to contend for the individual ACC title as the Bellevue, Wash., native is just three strokes off the 36-hole pace set by NC State's Benjamin Shipp. Siebers posted a 4-under 66 on the par-70 Crabapple Course Friday morning and followed it with 1-under 69 in round two.
His 5-under first round was highlighted by seven birdies, including a remarkable stretch of five consecutive birdies on the back nine as he posted a blistering 5-under 30 over his final nine holes. He carded three more birdies in round two. Feasting on the par-3s, Siebers's 4-under score on the par-3s was the best in the field on Friday.

Adrien Pendaries is also in red figures through 36 holes after rounds of 2-under 68 and 1-over 71. Pendaries posted eight birdies on the day and eagled the par-5 12th – his third hole of the second round. At 1-under 139, Pendaries is tied for 17th through 36 holes. His eagle was one of just five collectively in the field on Friday.

Qi wen Wong posted rounds of 74 and 70 on Friday and is tied for 35th at 4-over 144, while freshman
Jimmy Zheng bounced back from a 78 Friday morning to shoot 71 in the afternoon as is tied for 53rd at 9-over. Graduate student
Steven DiLisio was inserted into the Duke lineup after the first round and carded a 4-over 74 in round two. Senior
Evan Katz shot a 77 on Friday morning.
Duke as a team finds itself in seventh place through 36 holes after shooting 6-over 566 as a team on Friday, but in striking distance of the top four and a berth in the match play semifinals on Sunday. North Carolina leads the tournament at 21-under, followed by NC State (-12), Clemson (-9), Florida State (-3), Wake Forest (+2), Georgia Tech (+4) and Duke (+6) round out the top half of the 12-team field. Ten of the 12 ACC squads are ranked 36th or better in the latest Golfstat team ratings.
NC State's Shipp tops the individual leaderboard at 8-under 132, followed by a trip of Tar Heels, with Siebers alone in fifth at 5-under 135.
Duke is paired with Louisville and Virginia for Saturday's final round and will tee off on the 10th hole beginning at 7:30 a.m. Live scoring is available from Golfstat.com.
