DURHAM, N.C. – The Tewaaraton Foundation announced additions to the 2021 Tewaaraton Award Watch Lists and graduate student
Callie Humphrey was among the nine new honorees, the foundation announced Friday.
Humphrey joins
Maddie Jenner and
Gabby Rosenzweig who were named to the initial watch list in March.
The initial lists that were announced March 11 included the top players across all three divisions of NCAA lacrosse to highlight the early contenders for this year's Tewaaraton Award. These April additions represent players from 13 men's programs and nine women's programs.
A native of Summit, N.J., Humphrey has started all 10 contests this spring and has been an anchor for Duke's defense. Humphrey owns 21 caused turnovers and 17 ground balls this season as Duke's defense averages 11.3 caused turnovers/game and 17.4 ground balls/game. In Duke's setback to No. 5 Notre Dame, Humphrey caused seven turnovers to push her career total to 90, ranking eighth in program history. She has 126 career ground balls to go along with her 90 caused turnovers.
The Tewaaraton Award annually honors the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. The selection committees are made up of premier collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by The Tewaaraton Foundation.
Five men's and five women's finalists will be announced in early May. The Tewaaraton Award recipients will be chosen after the conclusion of the collegiate lacrosse season.
As the schedules of most teams remain subject to state and school-specific COVID-19 protocols, the selection committees proceeded on the assumption that all eligible and enrolled student-athletes will have some opportunity to compete this season.
Duke will take on No. 4 Boston College Saturday, April 3 at noon on ACC Network Extra.
