LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No. 21 Duke softball team fell short in the series opener at Louisville, dropping a 2-0 decision in game one on Friday evening at Ulmer Stadium.
The Blue Devils (27-10, 15-10 ACC) saw four hits spread out between senior
Jameson Kavel, juniors
Deja Davis and
Kyla Morris and sophomore
Kamryn Jackson, but the Cardinals' (16-17, 10-12) edged Duke in the loss behind five of their own.
Louisville scored the game-winning run in the first inning as Celene Funke started things off with a triple and crossed home plate on a Duke fielding error for a 1-0 lead. The Cardinals added their second run in the fourth with an RBI single through the right side (2-0).
Senior pitcher
Peyton St. George (11-6) tossed six complete innings in which she tallied six strikeouts. The Mechanicsville, Va., let up two runs, including one earned.
Duke and Louisville will continue the series tomorrow with a doubleheader, beginning at 12 p.m. at Ulmer Stadium. Both games will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
