DURHAM, N.C. – The No. 8 Duke women's lacrosse team (7-5, 3-5 ACC) will dip out of conference play to host Liberty (6-5, 0-0 ASUN) Tuesday evening at 5 p.m. in Koskinen Stadium. The contest will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra with
Ryan Craig and Taylor Chumney on the call.
OPENING DRAW
Tuesday marks the first meeting between the squads. Liberty is coming off a 14-13 victory against Coastal Carolina on Saturday.
LAST TIME OUT
Despite Thursday night's contest in Kentucky being a physical one, the No. 8 Duke women's lacrosse team powered through to defeat No. 16 Louisville, 12-10, at Cardinal Stadium.
Goalkeeper
Sophia LeRose spearheaded a tough Duke defense as she picked up a career-high 14 saves on 24 Louisville shots on goal. The junior from San Diego, Calif., only had one save in the first half before her dominant second-half showing.
Offensively, the Blue Devils were led by two who recorded hat tricks in
Katie Cronin and
Eva Greco.
Maddie Jenner added two goals for her first multi-goal performance since March 19, while
Olivia Carner,
Catriona Barry,
Katie DeSimone and
Abby Landry rounded out Duke's offensive performance. Greco's two-goal outing tonight marks her first goal since 2019.
The Blue Devils dominated the draw control (19-5) as Jenner led the way with nine and Barry contributed five. Defensively, Carner and
Callie Humphrey grabbed three ground balls each while
Cubby Biscardi collected two caused turnovers.
SCOUTING THE FLAMES
Tuesday's contest marks the first meeting between the two programs. Liberty enters the game with a 6-5 overall record and is coming off a 14-13 victory over Coastal Carolina.
Liberty is facing its fourth contest against a nationally-ranked opponent. They have previously faced No. 18 Virginia Tech, No. 4 Notre Dame and No. 23 James Madison this spring.
The Flames are led by Brooke Bryan with a team-high 31 points with 27 goals and four assists. Leah Ruby and Jordan Sheive round out the offense with 23 and 21 points, respectively.
Liberty leads the nation in caused turnovers/game (13.91) as Sarah Steenson has 20 this season. Goalkeeper Jennifer Soriero owns a 11.07 GAA and a .396 save percentage in 11 games.
LeROSE HAS CAREER NIGHT AT LOUISVILLE
Goalkeeper
Sophia LeRose spearheaded a tough Duke defense in Duke's 12-10 victory as she picked up a career-high 14 saves on 24 Louisville shots on goal, good for a .583 save percentage.
The junior from San Diego, Calif., only had one save in the first half before her dominant second-half showing. This season, LeRose has 72 saves for a .450 save percentage and has picked up 22 ground balls in the cage.
ROOKIE DeSIMONE FINDS HER FOOTING
Freshman
Katie DeSimone has proven to be a point of emphasis for Duke's offense this season and is tied for fourth on the team with 21 points (13 goals, 8 assists).
DeSimone has scored at least one goal in seven of Duke's 12 contests and earned a spot in the starting lineup for the last three games.
FAN INFORMATION
Due to the impact of COVID-19, Duke University will begin its spring sport program seasons without spectators at home events. Contests played on Duke's campus will include essential game management personnel and broadcast media. Traditional parking lots used by fans on game day will be closed.
