COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Duke fencing team kicked off the first day at the Ohio State Invitational on a high note as the women's saber squad went undefeated Saturday in Columbus, Ohio.
The women defeated Denison (24-3), Northwestern (16-11) and Wayne State (15-2), but fell to Penn State (15-12) and Ohio State (15-12). On the men's side, the Blue Devils took down Wayne State twice (10-8, 11-6) and dropped a narrow decision to Ohio State (14-13) and Penn State (20-7).
Four Blue Devil women tallied nine or more victories as rookie
Sarah Lurye registered 10 on the epee side while
Christina Ferrari (foil),
Zsofia Walter (saber) and
Anneke Zegers (saber) all had nine wins. Foilist
Julia Noguchi and epeeist
Chloe Beittel also collected eight wins each.
On the men's side, sophomore
Finn Hossfeld added six victories as the men's foil squad went 4-0 as a team.
Brycen Rushing(foil),
Danny Campbell III (epee) and
Kevin Chao (epee) each gathered four wins.
