BLACKSBURG, Va. – Freshman
Moorea Mitchell recorded a new personal best and placed fourth all-time at Duke in the women's weight throw on the opening night of the Virginia Tech Challenge at Rector Field House.
Mitchell, a freshman from Sunnyvale, Calif., earned fourth overall in the weight throw with a PR mark of 16.50 meters (54-1.75 feet). The distance surpassed former Blue Devil
Kim Hanauer's best mark of 16.12m (52-10.75) for the fourth in Duke indoor history, and it ranks 14th in the ACC this indoor season. Mitchell's previous best mark of 15.53m (50-11.5), set in her collegiate debut at the "Doc" Hale Virginia Tech Elite Meet, ranked fifth all-time at Duke entering Friday's event.

Ben Beatty took sixth in the men's weight throw with a distance of 17.00m (55-9.25), marking his second-best output of the season. Beatty has earned a top-10 result in all four of his weight throw events during the indoor campaign.
