Murphy Garners Weekly Honor
- Junior defender Ian Murphy garnered an honorable mention nod for the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week after helping the Blue Devils shut out No. 19 Charlotte in a 0-0 double overtime draw last Friday.Â
- Playing all 861 minutes this season, Murphy was an anchor in the middle of the defense. The Blue Devils held the 49ers to nine shots over the course of 110 minutes, five of which came on frame.

Breaking Down the Blue Devils
- The Blue Devils are coming off of a scoreless draw against No. 19 Charlotte to start the spring season. Duke is 2-6-1 with wins against ACC foe NC State. Head coach John Kerr has arranged a challenging 2021 slate, featuring three non-conference games against teams ranked in the top 25 or receiving votes in the polls.
- Junior Eliot Hamill earned the starting nod in goal last Friday against Charlotte. It was the first time in 66 games the Blue Devils had a new face in net after Will Pulisic started every game since 2017. In his first collegiate action, Hamill made five saves and helped the defense hold Charlotte to nine shots and just one corner kick.
- Offensively, Duke scored nine goals in the fall with Jack Doran pacing the team with three. Stephen O'Connell and Daniel Wright both contributed a pair, while rookie midfielder Nick Pariano had a goal and three assists. The Blue Devils managed 10.38 shots per game, ranking seventh in the ACC. However, their 6.12 corner kicks per game were second in the league.
- Matthias Frick and Ian Murphy are the veterans who will anchor the defense this spring. Frick returns to the lineup after missing last week, allowing Murphy to move to the outside back position.
- Rookies Antino Lopez and Amir Daley bolster the defense. Both are elite individual defenders. Lopez has great vision out of the back, while Daley's speed and quickness allows him to get into the attack when he wants. Freshman Lewis McGarvey will return to his role as a defensive center midfielder. Outstanding in the air, McGarvey and rookie playmaker and workhorse Peter Stroud will be the ball winners in the center of the field. Defensively, Duke is allowing 10.1 shots per game, just over four on goal and 1.67 goals per game.
