DURHAM – Head coach
Marissa Young and the Duke softball program announced its 2022 spring schedule on Wednesday.
The schedule consists of 49 regular season games, before the postseason begins in mid-May. The Blue Devils will play across four months and eight states, facing 11 teams that made the NCAA Tournament last season.
"Our 2022 schedule reflects our program's commitment to sustaining excellence," said Young. "We continue to play a tough schedule to prepare our team to find success in the NCAA Tournament. Our schedule includes 11 teams that played in the NCAA Tournament last year and seven in the top-25. Team 5 is poised with a strong upper class, dominate pitching and an explosive offense to lead the charge for our 2022 campaign."
The season begins on Feb. 11, as the Blue Devils travel to Tempe, Ariz., for a tournament hosted by Arizona State. The Blue Devils open the season at 11 a.m. ET against Cal Baptist, followed Oklahoma State at 1:30 p.m. Duke stays from Feb. 11-13 and play Utah twice and Arizona State once to end the event.
Next up is a three-day stay in Gainesville, Fla, as the Blue Devils meet the host Florida, Villanova, Florida A&M (twice) and Louisville from Feb. 18-20. The event serves as the final test before the home opener against Elon on Feb. 23 at 4:30 p.m.
Rounding out the month of February will be the Duke Invitational, as the Blue Devils play host to Army, Michigan, and Northern Kentucky at Duke Softball Stadium from Feb. 25-27. Young is a Michigan alumnus, who will get an opportunity to meet her former coach, Carol Hutchins, for the first time as a head coach.
The Blue Devils open ACC play with a three-game series at Georgia Tech, that runs from Mar. 4-6, in Atlanta, Ga. The series is the last before a lengthy homestand, beginning with single games against Penn State (Mar. 8) and Charlotte (Mar. 9).
Duke follows those up with three game series against NC State (Mar. 11-13) and Clemson (Mar. 18-20). The last time Duke and Clemson met, the Blue Devils defeated the Tigers 1-0, taking home the program's first ACC Championship.
March ends with a three-game series at Notre Dame, from Mar. 25-27 and two contests at East Carolina on Mar. 30.
April's lone home series will open the month, as the Blue Devils host Boston College from Apr. 1-3. From there, the Blue Devils start a lengthy road swing that takes the team into May.
First up will be a game against UNC-Greensboro on Apr. 6, before jumping back into ACC action for three games at Virginia, Apr. 8-10. The Blue Devils face off against two difficult non-conference opponents, meeting James Madison on Apr. 12 for two games and Liberty on Apr. 20 for a single contest. The trip ends with three games at Syracuse from Apr. 22-24 and a game at Campbell on May 4.
Rounding out the regular season will be three contests against Pittsburgh in Durham from May 5-7. Following the series, the Blue Devils seek to defend their ACC title at the ACC Tournament, hosted by Pittsburg from May 11-14.
National postseason play would begin on May 20 with the NCAA Regionals and run all the way until the Women's College World Series, hosted in Oklahoma City, Okla., from June 2-8.
For the first time in program history, the Duke Softball program is offering a season ticket package that is available to purchase now. The package includes 17 home games at Duke Softball Stadium for $80. The package is made up of five games in the Duke Invitational, plus four, three game series against ACC opponents.
