Setting the Scene...
The 16th-ranked Duke women's basketball team (8-1) will travel to Charleston, S.C., to face Charleston Southern (0-10) on Tuesday, Dec. 21 at 12 p.m., in the Buccaneer Fieldhouse. The contest will mark the final non-conference contest of the 2021-22 campaign for the Blue Devils.
The game will be carried live on ESPN+ with Killian McClatchey (PXP), John Peters (Color) and Anna Witte calling the action. It will also be carried on the Blue Devil Sports Network via WDNC AM 620, the Varsity Network app and www.GoDuke.com with Chris Edwards (PXP) on the air at 11:45 a.m.

Duke will be off for the Christmas holiday, before traveling to Virginia Tech for an ACC contest in Blacksburg, Va., on Dec. 30 at 7 p.m.

Charleston Southern enters Tuesday with a 0-10 record. The Buccaneers have been led by Tori Gittens (8.1 points), Alyssia Faye (7.3 points) and Sha"mya Leigh (6.5 points) on the season.

Duke and Charleston Southern will face off for the fourth time in program history, with Duke leading the series, 3-0. The two teams haven't met since 2002. In the last meeting, Duke won 106-38 on Dec. 16, 2002, in Durham. The Blue Devils are 2-0 in home games and 1-0 in games played at a neutral site.

Duke owns a 40-10 record against Big South Conference opponents -- Campbell (4-8), Charleston Southern (3-0), Gardner-Webb (1-0), Hampton (6-0), High Point (2-2), Longwood (2-0), Presbyterian (2-0),

• With the Duke at Miami game being canceled due to the Hurricanes' COVID protocols, the Blue Devils were given a win in the ACC standings, but the contest does not count as a victory in the overall record.
• Since the 1990-91 season, Duke is 27-3 in the final game prior to the holiday break. However, the Blue Devils have lost their last two games before the break. In 2019-20, they lost at fifth-ranked South Carolina, 89-46, and in the 2018-19 season, Duke dropped a decision at 11th-ranked Oregon State, 83-66. The last win for Duke before the holiday break was in 2017-18 when it defeated Wyoming, 63-40, at Cameron Indoor Stadium
• Duke's last road loss against a non-Power-5 opponent was Dec. 29, 2019 at Florida Gulf Coast 78-56.
• With a win over Charleston Southern, Duke would finish non-conference action with nine victories - that would be the most for a Blue Devil team since the 2017-18 season when they finished non-conference action 11-2.
• Duke head coach Kara Lawson has coached Duke in 13 contests so far with her only two losses coming against a No. 1 (South Carolina) and No. 2 (Louisville) ranked opponent.

• Entering the Iowa game on Dec. 2, unranked teams were 0-47 versus top-10 opponents on the season, before Duke knocked off No. 9 Iowa. The current record is 2-71 (through Dec. 20) with the two wins coming by the Blue Devils and Georgia Tech (over UConn). The 15-point win over Iowa was the largest margin of victory over a top-10 team for Duke since defeating FSU by 13 the 2017-18 season.
• Duke has scored 349 points off the bench in nine games for an average of 34.9, while its opponents are averaging only 9.8 a contest. The Blue Devils' 34.9 per game average leads the ACC with NC State in second (34.7). Only Duke and NC State are averaging 30.0 points off the bench or better in the ACC.
• Freshman Shayeann Day-Wilson has hit 21-of-35 treys the last five games, including 19-of-31 the last four contests. Her 25 three-pointers on the season ranks as the third-most by a freshman nationally (Tess Myers of Duquesne leads with 31 in 11 games). Day-Wilson and Myers are tied with 2.8 made treys per game.
• Duke has allowed 75 points or less in every game under Kara Lawson as head coach. The 13-straight games allowing 75 points or less is the longest streak since the 2019-20 season when the Blue Devils allowed less than 75 points in 17 straight contests.
• The Blue Devils have posted 20+ points in the first quarter in seven of the nine contests this season. Duke had led after the first 10 minutes in each of the first eight games prior to the South Carolina contest.
• The Blue Devils feature eight different players that have drained at least one 3-pointer on the season, while six have hit six or more.
