DURHAM – The Duke men's soccer program was tabbed No. 12 nationally in the final poll of the 2021 campaign, as announced Tuesday by the United Soccer Coaches.
Â
The Blue Devils finished with a record of 14-5-1 and 5-2-1 in the ACC, while becoming ACC Coastal Division Co-Champions, after being picked to finish fifth in the ACC in the preseason poll. The Blue Devils spent every week of the regular season in the top-25, after being unranked in the preseason poll and spent four weeks in the top-10 in the country.
Â
Under head coach
John Kerr and his staff, who were tabbed the South Region's Staff of the Year, the Blue Devils saw a 10-win improvement, becoming one of just six Division I programs to improve by 10 or more victories, joining Hofstra, Northeastern, Northern Illinois, Tulsa, and Villanova.
Â
It was a historic season for the Blue Devils, who won 14 games for the first time since 2009 and played in the program's first ACC Championship final since 2006. Duke would go on to reach the third round of the NCAA Championship.
Â
Sophomore
Thorleifur Ulfarsson was named a first team All-American and the ACC Offensive Player of the Year, while fellow sophomore
Peter Stroud was a third team All-American and ACC Midfielder of the Year. With Stroud and Ulfarsson being named All-America, Duke had two All-Americans in the same season for the first time since 2010. Freshman
Shakur Mohammed also had a breakout debut campaign, winning the ACC's Freshman of the Year award.
