DURHAM – As the Blue Devils prepare for the 2022 baseball season, head coachÂ
Chris Pollard and the Duke baseball program are excited to introduce the incoming freshman class.
Over the fall semester, GoDuke.com will release individual introductions of its 12-member freshman class.
Â
A native of Roseland, N.J.,
Jimmy Romano is the 11th member of Duke's freshman class to be introduced this fall.
Â
"I was really impressed with the way that Jimmy progressed through the fall," Pollard said. "After a semester in our sports performance program, he put up some of the fastest times in our post-fall assessments. As a pitcher he throws a lot of strikes; and as a positional player he is a versatile defender with an emerging offensive approach."
Â
Romano lettered four seasons at Saint Joseph Regional High School under head coach Marck Cieslak. A two-way player, Romano arrives in Durham with experience in the infield and on the mound.
Â
As a senior, Romano led St. Joseph's to capture the state championship as a senior, batting .390 with 30 RBIs. He also led the team with 18 walks and nine home runs. In addition to his prowess at the plate, Romano also struck out nine without allowing a run in 3.2 innings of work.
Â
Prior to missing his junior season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Romano recorded a 1.27 ERA in five appearances on the mound as a sophomore. He struck out 17 batters in just 14.2 innings pitched. In his freshman season, Romano hit .357 with three RBIs. He made six appearances that season, allowing no earned runs in 9.2 innings on the bump.
Â
Off the field, Romano was a member of National Spanish Honor Society and Unico Club.
Â
Born Generoso James Romano on June 11, 2003, he is the son of James and Mary Romano. He has two sisters, Haley and Gabriella.
