DURHAM – The Duke men's soccer program recently convened as a group to deliver its yearly awards at the team banquet. Several highly decorated Blue Devils added more awards to their growing portfolios.

Sophomore
Peter Stroud was named the team's Most Valuable Player for the second straight season, sophomore
Thorleifur Ulfarsson was tabbed as Offensive Player of the Year and senior
Ian Murphy was named Defensive Player of the Year.
Shakur Mohammed was selected as the team's Freshman of the Year, while sophomore
Krew Verratti was awarded the
John Rennie Coaching Award.

Stroud built on his MVP campaign from last season in nearly every metric, scoring four goals and four assists, while tallying a career-high 1,717 minutes. The Chester, N.J., native displayed a tremendous motor, becoming one of the top two-way players in the nation, which culminated in being named a third team All-American, the 2021 ACC Midfielder of the Year and All-ACC First Team.

Ulfarsson added another honor to his growing list of achievements, after being named a first team All-American, the 2021 ACC Offensive Player of the Year and All-ACC First Team, among other awards. The sophomore from Kopavogur, Iceland recorded 15 goals and one assist, for 31 points and tallied the most goals by a Blue Devil since 2011.

After capping off his senior season with All-South Region Third Team honors, Murphy was honored by his team after a big season at center back. The Redlands, Calif., native ranked second on the team in total minutes with 1,748, registering two assists while playing a key role on a defense that allowed just 23 goals in 20 games.

Regarded as one of the top freshmen in the nation, Mohammed added the team's Freshman of the Year award to his 2021 ACC Freshman of the Year honor. A native of Kumasi, Ghana, Mohammed led the Blue Devils in assists and finished with three goals and seven assists for 13 points in 18 games. Mohammed was also named All-South Region Third Team.

A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Verratti played in four games this season, which including making his first collegiate start against Seattle. Verratti was a tireless worker in practice and on the pitch, playing multiple positions and providing a leadership role for the Blue Devils.
