DURHAM – Five Duke Athletics programs will be honored tonight for their 2020-21 ACC Championships during the Thursday night football game vs. Louisville at Wallace Wade Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. on ESPN.
Duke's baseball, men's and women's fencing, women's golf and softball teams will be recognized for their ACC Championship accomplishments in 2020-21 – a year that saw the Blue Devils capture seven ACC crowns, tying the school record for most in an academic year and leading all ACC institutions. Duke's women's track & field program was honored at Duke's football game on Nov. 6. The title for Duke men's lacrosse was the program's ninth conference championship trophy.
Led by head coach Chris Pollard, the ninth-seeded Duke baseball team concluded its historic run and secured a 1-0 victory over third-seeded NC State to claim the program's fourth ACC Baseball title and first in 60 seasons. Pollard's squad will be honored during the fourth timeout of the second quarter.
Last February, led by head coach Alex Beguinet, Duke pulled off the sweep of the men's and women's team titles at the ACC Fencing Championship. After the Blue Devil women rolled to the championship, the men earned their title in dramatic fashion after winning a fence-off tiebreaker. Duke won it's first women's team title and the second for the men. The fencing program will be recognized during the second timeout of the second quarter.
The Duke women's golf team hoisted its 22nd ACC Championship trophy last April at Sedgefield Country Club as the top-seeded Blue Devils defeated third-seeded Florida State, 5-0, in match play to claim the title. It marked the 21st ACC title under the direction of head coach Dan Brooks. Brooks and the team will be showcased during the first and second quarter break.
Last May, in just its fourth year as a program, head coach Marissa Young guided Duke softball to its first ACC title in team history. Following a victory over the top ranked Florida State Seminoles, Duke faced No. 2 Clemson in the championship game and secured a 1-0 victory. The softball program will be honored during the second timeout of the first quarter.
