DURHAM, N.C.βDuke senior
Leah Crouse has been named to the 2021 NFHCA Division I Senior Team as recently announced by the organization. Crouse is among the 38 players selected to the team.
All ten Division I conferences and five NCAA regions that sponsor field hockey are represented on the list of 2021 honorees. The selected student-athletes were nominated by their NFHCA member coach and were chosen based on their career accomplishments.
Crouse was a standout midfielder for the Blue Devils over the past four seasons. The Virginia Beach native started 14 of the 15 games she played for Duke this season, registering three goals and two assists to rank fifth on the team in scoring.
After missing the first game while playing with the United States at the Junior Pan American Championship, Crouse returned to start the final 14 games of the season. She notched her first goal of the season in a 3-1 win at Princeton and tacked on ones at James Madison and William & Mary.
For her career, Crouse has played in 67 games with 44 starting assignments. She was an All-ACC second team pick in 2019 and is a three-time member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll. With 18 goals and 16 assists to her name, Crouse ranks 39th in Duke history in career points at 52. She is one of 41 players in the history of the program to amass at least 50 points.
Next up for Crouse on the field is a trip with the United States U21 National Team to the 2021 FIH Hockey Women's Junior World Cup in Potchefstroom, South Africa. The Junior USWNT will take part in a pre-tournament holding camp from November 26 to 29 at Queens University in Charlotte, N.C. The following day the selected team will depart from Charlotte to make the trip to Potchefstroom, South Africa. The tournament runs from Dec. 5-16.
In lieu of the traditional coach-led trophy presentation at the NFHCA Senior Games β which were cancelled due to limitations caused by the COVID-19 pandemic β a custom t-shirt featuring the names of all Senior Team members was created in honor of the award.
