DURHAM – Former Duke quarterback Daniel Jones was selected the National Football League's NFC Offensive Player of the Week after leading the New York Giants to a come-from-behind 27-21 overtime win over the New Orleans Saints last Sunday.
Jones earned his second career Player of the Week nod, after he was first tabbed with the honor following his first career start in 2019 against Tampa Bay. In that game, he completed 23-of-36 passes for 336 yards and two scores, while running for two additional touchdowns and leading the Giants to a 32-31 victory over the Buccaneers.
This past Sunday, Jones finished 28-of-40 passing for a career-high 402 yards and two touchdowns for a passer rating of 108.5. Trailing 21-10 with just over 12 minutes remaining in regulation, Jones sparked the comeback with a 54-yard touchdown pass to Saquon Barkely. With 30 seconds left on the clock, Jones drove New York down the field to set up a 48-yard game-tying field goal by Graham Gano to force overtime.
In the extra period, Jones put together the game-winning drive by converting on all six of his passes for 75 yards, including a third down throw to Kenny Golladay which set up Barkley's six-yard touchdown run.
The victory marked the third time Jones has led the Giants from a fourth quarter deficit or tie to a victory.
Jones' 400-yard passing game marked the first by a Giants quarterback since Eli Manning threw for 434 yards on Dec. 17, 2017, against Philadelphia. His two touchdown passes, which went for 51 and 54 yards, also marked the first time the Giants had thrown for two scores of 50-plus yards in a single contest since Dec. 17, 2017.
Jones is back in action Sunday when the Giants travel to Dallas for a showdown with the Cowboys at 4:25 p.m. on Fox.
