DURHAM – Duke rowing head coach
Megan Cooke Carcagno has announced the team's schedule for the 2021-22 season, beginning with the historic Head of the Charles Regatta on Saturday, Oct. 23 in Boston, Mass.
After a shortened 2020-21 campaign in which the Blue Devils did not compete during the fall, Duke will appear at three events over the next month. Following the Head of the Charles, the Blue Devils travel to Chattanooga, Tenn., for the Head of the Hooch Nov. 6-7. A week later on Sunday, Nov. 14, the team will participate at the Rivanna Romp in Charlottesville, Va.
Duke kicks off the spring slate with a scrimmage against Virginia at Lake Michie in Bahama, N.C., on Saturday, Feb. 26. The Blue Devils get their first taste of recorded competition on Saturday, March 5, when they aim to win their fifth consecutive Carolina Cup on Lake Hartwell in Clemson, S.C.
Duke will then travel to Oak Ridge, Tenn., for the first time since the 2013-14 season when it competes in the Oak Ridge Invite March 19-20. Early April presents elite competition from the Big Ten, as the Blue Devils will be in Columbus, Ohio for the Big Ten/ACC Double Dual on Saturday, April 2 before heading south to Sarasota, Fla., for the Big Ten Invite April 15-16.
This past spring's Big Ten/ACC Double Dual saw the Duke Varsity Eight boat outrace No. 7 Michigan for the first time in program history en route to ACC Crew of the Week honors.
The Blue Devils wrap up the regular season April 22-23, when they co-host the Lake Wheeler Invitational with the University of North Carolina in Raleigh, N.C. It will be the third installment of the regatta that began in 2019, with Duke taking the top spot in the team standings each of the past two seasons.
Duke will return to Lake Hartwell for the ACC Championship May 13-14, looking to improve on a second-place showing in 2019 and 2021. This past May, the Blue Devils earned silver medals in the Varsity Eight, Varsity Four and Third Varsity Eight Grand Finals. The NCAA Championships will once again be held in Sarasota, as Duke seeks its fourth appearance in six years on Memorial Day weekend (May 27-29).
At the 2021 NCAA Championships, Duke's Second Varsity Eight crew placed first in the C Finals while the Blue Devils finished 16th in the team standings.
The Blue Devils have held a spot in the top 20 in each of the last 21 Pocock/CRCA national polls dating back to April of 2019. Duke's highest ranking last season was No. 9.
Additional information on the 2021-22 schedule, including opponents and race times, will be released prior to the date of each regatta. For more on Duke rowing, follow the Blue Devils on
