Ashton's older sister, Emily, is currently a senior team captain with the Virginia rowing program. Natalie also has a twin sister, Julia, who competed for the Albany Rowing Center at the Youth Nationals and has signed with Georgetown University.
Their mother, Kathy Moser, attended Duke from 1980-84 and was a member of the women's soccer team.
What is your favorite rowing memory?
NA: My favorite rowing memory is racing at the 2019 Head of the Charles in the Varsity 8+. We placed ninth, which we were really proud of since we hadn't been rowing together for very long. It was one of the last races that I had with all of my teammates before COVID hit and it was overall just such a fun weekend.
Why did you choose to row for Duke?
NA: I chose to row for duke because it is an amazing opportunity both academically and athletically. The team is so supportive of each other and that is something that I instantly knew I wanted to be a part of for the next four years!
What stuck out to you about the team that made the decision feel right?
NA: I knew that I made the right decision because everyone that I talked to was so excited about the team and that is the type of atmosphere that I wanted to surround myself with. I also just couldn't stop thinking about Duke no matter how hard I tried, so I knew that it was where I wanted to be.
What was something about Duke that surprised you?
NA: Something that surprised me about Duke was all of the support that the students receive, especially as a freshman and as an athlete. Having advisors on both the academic and athletic side is something that I am very excited to have access to. Duke is a very academically competitive school, so it is amazing to know that I will have so much support throughout my college career.
What impact do you plan to make in your four years?
NA: I want to be a part of taking Duke to the next step of winning ACC's and consistently making it to NCAA's. Duke rowing is a program that is on the rise, which is something that I am excited to be a part of.
