DURHAM, N.C. – Incoming Duke women's lacrosse freshman
Katie DeSimone was named a 2020 Under Armour Senior All-American, the Corrigan Sports Enterprises, in conjunction with Inside Lacrosse, announced Tuesday.
DeSimone, ranked the fifth recruit nationally by Inside Lacrosse, was selected on attack to the 2020 South Team. The selection was the fourth year in a row DeSimone earned Under Armour All-American status, including being on the All-Tournament team as a sophomore.
A standout and captain at St. Anthony's High School in South Huntington, N.Y., DeSimone saw her senior season canceled due to COVID-19. Prior to her final year, the Bay Shore, N.Y., native tallied 67 goals and 24 assists as a junior and 57 goals and 15 assists as a sophomore. As a junior, she earned the CHSAA Player of the Year while earning CHSAA All League and Attacker of the year as a sophomore and junior.
Although the 2020 Senior All-America game was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, CSE and Inside Lacrosse will be sending each player named to the class of 2020 their respective game jerseys from Under Armour to commemorate their selection as an All-American.
"While we have had to cancel the 2020 Senior All-America Lacrosse games out of concern for the wellness and overall protection of all event participants, spectators and staff, this is only a momentary pause for these graduating seniors before they become stars in college," Lee Corrigan, president of CSE said. "With support from great partners like Under Armour and Inside Lacrosse, we will maintain our passion for lacrosse as we put together plans for outstanding events for years to come."
DeSimone and the rest of the Blue Devils women's lacrosse team are preparing to return to campus and begin fall classes and training for the 2021 season. DeSimone is one of seven newcomers to the squad.
