DURHAM, N.C.—Five incoming Blue Devils are among the 45 Under Armour Senior All-Americans selected for the class of 2020 as announced by Corrigan Sports Enterprises in conjunction with Inside Lacrosse Tuesday afternoon. The 2020 Senior All-America Game scheduled for August 8 in Baltimore, Md., is canceled due to COVID-19.
Duke had four representatives on the North squad and one on the South team. Arguably the nation's top recruit, Brennan O'Neill headlines the attack. St. Anthony teammates Aidan Danenza and Jake Naso join O'Neill, while Delbarton School defenseman Cole Krauss rounds out the Duke contingent.
Representing Duke on the South squad is Charlie O'Connor as one of eight midfielders.
"While we have had to cancel the 2020 Senior All-America Lacrosse games out of concern for the wellness and overall protection of all event participants, spectators and staff, this is only a momentary pause for these graduating seniors before they become stars in college," Lee Corrigan, president of CSE said. "With support from great partners like Under Armour and Inside Lacrosse, we will maintain our passion for lacrosse as we put together plans for outstanding events for years to come."
The trio from St. Anthony's played a crucial role in the Friars' success during their careers. With O'Neill headlining the offense, St. Anthony's registered a 15-1 conference record en route to capturing the Long Island Championship, the Intersectional Championship and the state CHSAA Class AAA Championship. O'Neill was named National Player of the Year in 2019 and has been a top scorer since he was in eighth grade.
Danenza is considered one of the top midfielders in the class of 2020 and had 22 goals and 20 assists in 2019 as the Friars battled their way to various titles. Naso, a faceoff specialist, was dominant at the X for St. Anthony's winning nearly 80 percent of his faceoffs in 2019 and is considered the top faceoff man by Inside Lacrosse.
Ranked 22nd in the class of 2020 by Inside Lacrosse, Krauss was one of 26 players picked for the U.S. U19 Training Roster last fall. Krauss, O'Neill and Naso were three of the seven high school seniors to be selected to the training roster.
O'Connor comes to Duke as a top midfielder and ranked 33rd overall in Inside Lacrosse's Class of 2020. He starred for Paul VI in Virginia and was invited to try out for the U.S. Men's U19 team.
Although the 2020 Senior All-America game was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, CSE and Inside Lacrosse will be sending each player named to the class of 2020 their respective game jerseys from Under Armour to commemorate their selection as an All-American.
