2001 – Women's Basketball -- Former Duke National Player of the Year Alana Beard helped the USA Basketball Women's Junior World Championship team to the 2001 USA Basketball Junior International Invitational Championship at George Washington's Smith Center in Washington, D.C.
July 10
2016 – Women's Golf -- Brittany Lang became the first Blue Devil to win a major championship as she won the 2016 U.S. Women's Open in a playoff at CordeValle in San Martin, Calif.
2016 – Track & Field – Duke alumna Shannon Rowbury qualified for her third consecutive Olympic Games by posting a top-three finish in the women's 1500m on the final day of the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Eugene, Ore. Rowbury, the American record holder for 1500m, crossed the finish line in a time of 4:05.39 and placed second overall to secure a spot on Team USA.
2019 -- Men's Basketball -- Zion Williamson added another trophy to his collection by winning the ESPY as the 2019 College Athlete of the Year. Williamson became the first Duke men's basketball player to win an ESPY, and just the fourth nominated. In 2002, both Shane Battier and Jason Williams were nominated for the College Athlete of the Year, while J.J. Redick was nominated in 2006.
July 12
2005 – Women's Golf -- In a reward for winning the 2005 NCAA Championship, the Duke women's golf program visited President George W. Bush at the White House.
2006 – Women's Basketball -- Former Duke star Alana Beard started for the East Team in the 2006 WNBA All-Star game and led the squad to a 98-82 victory over the West Team at Madison Square Garden in New York, N.Y. In the contest, Beard played 11 minutes, scored six points, had two rebounds and one assist.
