HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blue Devils sparked their offense immediately, using three straight singles to push the first run across the plate in the opening inning. Duke added four additional runs in the first, using a groundout and RBI-doubles from sophomore Layla Lamar and senior Aleyah Terrell to take a 5-0 lead in the opening frame.
- Junior Aminah Vega went yard in the bottom of the second with a solo blast to left. Jones followed with a double before moving up on a fly out. She then came home on a squeeze bunt laid down by redshirt junior Kairi Rodriguez to put Duke in front 7-0.
- Lamar drew a walk to open the third before advancing to third on a CSUB throwing error. Graduate student Jada Baker slipped a base hit into the center field gap in the ensuing at bat to plate Lamar and extend the gap to 8-0.
- Freshman Brookelyn Grayson tallied her first career hit and RBI after sending the first pitch she saw to the left center field wall, plating Duke's ninth and final run in the bottom of the fourth.
