Duke baseball play-by-play announcer Chris Edwards is giving fans an inside look at some of his memorable baseball moments throughout his eight years as the Voice of the Blue Devils. The events highlighted during this series are not meant to be a complete listing of all memorable accomplishments, but a sampling of great moments in Edwards' words.
Anytime a club makes a deep run in the postseason, there is usually a player who steps up to become one of the big heroes for his club -- that certainly was the case for the Duke Blue Devils during the 2018 NCAA Tournament.
Â
Then freshman
Chris Crabtree emerged in fine fashion for the Blue Devils, particularly during the Athens Regional. Crabtree began his heroics with Duke facing elimination and down to their final two out, trailing by a pair of runs. The Bahama, N.C., native laced a three-run double down the right field line to spark an 11-run ninth inning to keep the Blue Devils' postseason hopes alive with a 16-8 victory.
Â
Less than 24 hours later, Crabtree would come up big again with a pair of home runs against Troy to propel Duke to the Regional Championship and an appearance in the Super Regional.
Â
For his efforts, Crabtree garnered Regional Most Outstanding Player after doing 10-for-14 with a pair of home runs, three doubles, nine RBI, six runs scored and three walks.
