DURHAM, N.C. – The National Wrestling Coaches Association announced recently that the Duke wrestling team finished 24th nationally in overall team grade point average.
Redshirt freshman Mason Eaglin garnered Scholar All-America honors from the organization as well. This was Eaglin's first acknowledgement from the NWCA and Duke's eight-straight season in which it had a wrestler recognized.
The Blue Devils, sporting a 3.2081 team GPA this year, were one of two ACC schools (NC State) honored.
Eaglin was Duke's lone Scholar All-American this season. The English major holds a 3.391 cumulative GPA and was supposed to complete his impressive first full year for Duke at the NCAA Championships before the tournament got cancelled. The redshirt freshman led the team with a 9-8 record during duals matches and finished the tournament season with an 11-2 mark. The Port Orchard, Wash., native went 3-3 against ranked opponents last season and was above .500 during ACC duals at 3-2, including a pin of Virginia's Victor Marcelli back on Feb. 14.
