Pam Bustin announces the fifth member of her recruiting class as Duke field hockey welcomes
Darcy Bourne for the 2020 campaign.
Bourne, who lives in Esher and attends Wellington College in Berkshire County, England, mainly plays in the midfield but also plays defense or forward for her club team – Surbiton Hockey Club. She captained her high school team, coached by Gareth Carr.
As a freshman, Bourne captained the England U-16 team and led her high school team to win a national title. During her sophomore season, she captained the U-16 for a second year as her high school squad won both indoor and outdoor nationals. As a junior, she played for the first team and came in third at nationals.
While a sophomore and junior in high school, Bourne spent time with England's U-18 squad where she played both midfield and forward. During her sophomore year, she earned a bronze medal at the European Championship and a bronze medal at the Six Nations as a junior, while she captained the team. Between U-16 and U-18, she totaled 54 junior international caps. As a senior, she played as a midfielder for England's U-21 and the Great Britain Elite Development Team where she scored in her first game with GB EDP.
Born Darcy Tabitha Bourne in London on Oct. 13, 2001, she is the daughter of Monty and Joanne Bourne. She has one older brother, Jackson (20).

What is your favorite field hockey memory?
"Winning the 3rd/4th playoffs at the U-18 Europeans." Â
How did you start playing field hockey?
"I used to play football (soccer) on the boys' team at school (no girls' team). Then one year they said I wasn't allowed to and forced me to do hockey, but I loved it."
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
"New Zealand or Hawaii."
Why Duke?
"It was the perfect combination of everything I was looking for in a university – great academics, hockey, sport culture and the people were so fun and friendly."
Best advice you've ever been given?
"You've got an opportunity of a lifetime, but it means absolutely nothing if you don't take advantage of it in the lifetime of this opportunity."
