Q+A with Kerrin:
Q: What was your degree?
Maurer: I graduated with a degree in political science and a minor in philosophy in 2015
Q: What is your current occupation?
KM: Assistant Women's Lacrosse Coach at Princeton University
Q: How has COVID-19 impacted you?
KM: Just like the DWL team, our season at Princeton was cut short. It has been the first spring since I can remember that I haven't been able to compete or coach lacrosse. Although I feel I am missing a large part of my life during this time, I have been very grateful for the time that this situation had afforded me with my family.
Q: Do you have any fun hobbies?
KM: In my ability to not hang up the athlete cleats yet I still play in an adult kickball and floor hockey league. I also have picked up learning to play the guitar.
Q: What is your favorite athletic memory at Duke?
KM: I think it is hard to come up with just one favorite athletic memory at Duke. If I had to pick, it would be the OT game with UNC in 2014. I still remember the amount of energy there was all over the field throughout the whole game.
Q: What was one thing that you picked up or did following your athletic career?
KM: Following my career at Duke I was fortunate to be able to compete for the Italian National Team. I was able to travel around the world playing as well as teaching the sport I love.
Q: Is there a phrase or advice you value most from Coach Kerstin?
KM: There are so many things that I have taken from Coach Kerstin and have tried to implement into my everyday life and coaching life. I think the biggest would have to be her overall resilience in every situation. As a player I was able to see that truly come to fruition in 2015 during her bout with breast cancer. Now as a coach, I see her continuously work towards making the student-athlete experience the best possible.
Q: If you could go back in time to the beginning of your freshman year, what is one piece of advice you would tell yourself?
KM: My advice to myself would be simple- enjoy every moment.
Q: What piece of advice or message would you tell the current team?
KM: I would tell the current team to stay strong during this unprecedented time. AND don't shoot high to high on the crease!
Q: What does it mean to you to be an alumna of DWL?
KM: Being an alumna of DWL is an honor to come from such a great program filled with amazing people and coaches. I am so thankful for all of the lessons and opportunities that DWL has created for me.
