DURHAM, N.C. – The 2020 season brought the start of the highly successful Fence for the Fight campaign in partnership with the Duke Cancer Institute.
With 1,215 wins this season in combination with pledging, the Fence for the Fight campaign totaled $30,144.55.
The campaign was launched by Duke fencing senior captains
Eoin Gronningsater and
Lindsay Sapienza in support of
Elizabeth Beguinet's fight against breast cancer, the team's Director of Administration and Recruiting.
Elizabeth, the wife of head coach
Alex Beguinet, is not just the team's recruiting coordinator, or travel coordinator, or seamstress for the uniforms. She's been the confidant, the coach, the on-campus mom, and the family for 34 years.
"Elizabeth is at the very heart of Duke fencing," Gronningsater said. "Fence for the Fight is not only an opportunity to give back and show our appreciation to her, but to give to a greater cause and bring the community together in a very impactful way."
On behalf of Duke fencing, we want to sincerely thank everyone for their support in helping make this campaign one of the most successful launches in Duke Athletics history.
"We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who donated to Fence for the Fight throughout our season," Sapienza said. "It would not have been possible without the endless support of our donors."
