DURHAM, N.C.—Duke men's soccer head coach
John Kerr is thrilled to welcome a talented group of incoming freshmen to campus this fall. GoDuke.com is taking the spring to introduce each player individually in advance of his arrival in Durham.
The newest Blue Devil to join the family is Antino "Tino" Lopez of Las Vegas. Lopez currently is a center back and holding midfielder for the Seattle Sounders Academy. Prior to joining the Seattle Sounders program, he played for Shattuck St. Mary's. Lopez also has been a fixture in the U17 U.S. Men's National Team pool.
In the most recent U.S. Soccer Development Academy season, Lopez had started 13 of the 15 games he played in for the Seattle Sounders U18-19 team. The Sounders sat in second place in its division, allowing only nine goals. Lopez also benefited from his invitation to train with the Seattle Sounders first team during preseason camp.
Considered to be one of the top players for the Sounders this season, Lopez has been a mainstay in the starting lineups throughout his scholastic career. In his three seasons with Shattuck St. Mary's he played in 62 games and started 60 of those. In the 2018-19 campaign, he was tabbed a Top XI player in the 2019 Development Academy Showcase.
On the international level, Lopez was invited to play with the U17 National Team in the 2019 Nike Friendlies. Overall, he's been in the U17 Men's National Team conversation since 2016.
Before joining the U.S. Soccer Development Academy, he helped lead his club program to three Nevada State Championships – 2013, 2014, and 2015 – and a Far West Regional title in 2016. The team went onto to advance to the national semifinals that year.
