After a successful four years as a diver on the Duke diving team, senior Jaina Gaudette is moving on from Durham following graduation. Her time at Duke was highlighted by two trips to the NCAA Championships on the platform during her sophomore and junior seasons. She reached the NCAAs her junior season after scoring a career-best 267.80 in the preliminaries and finishing third in the NCAA Zone B Championship finals. Her score of 267.80 on the platform placed her fourth in the Duke charts. Off the boards, Gaudette was a CSCAA Scholar All-America First Team selection in 2019 and three-time ACC Academic Honor Roll honoree.

Q: What is your favorite moment in the pool at Duke?
Gaudette: The first year we beat UNC. It was my freshman year. Our goal the entire year was to be the team that finally wins the rivalry. It was at UNC's pool during their senior night and both our women's and men's team won! It was a very special moment for our team and especially our seniors at the time. We even dumped a bucket of Gatorade over our head coach
Dan Colella to celebrate the victory.
Â
Q: What legacy do you want to have on DSDT?
Gaudette: Of course, I want to be remembered as a great platform diver. But I also want to be thought of as a good teammate who worked hard not only in the pool but academically as well, who took the incredible opportunity to come to Duke as an athlete and succeed as an engineer after.

Q: What is your favorite memory out of the pool at Duke?
Gaudette: My favorite memory out of the pool at Duke is the snow days my sophomore year. Being from Canada I am used to the snow, but down in North Carolina this was a very unique case. We ended up having multiple days off school and practice to enjoy the weather with friends. I remember having a huge school-wide snow ball fight in the Duke Gardens and going sledding down the hills. It was a great couple of days and of course the Duke campus looked beautiful covered in snow.
Â
Q: What was your favorite workout at Duke?
Gaudette: My favorite workout at Duke is the Halloween lift we do every year. Our weights coach
Carl Christensen always used to make Halloween the best practice of the year. We were allowed to dress up in a costume and during the practice we would have fun competitions against the different classes and genders on our team.Â
Q: What's next after Duke?
Gaudette: Next year I will be attending University of Michigan for a post baccalaureate program in medicine in the hope of continuing my education in the medical field.
