A 2019 First Team All-American close defenseman, Giles-Harris was having a solid senior campaign before coming to a halt. The Nyack, N.J., native and team captain served as the leader of a young defensive group in 2020. He ranked second among non-faceoff specialists with 21 ground balls and had a team-best 13 caused turnovers. He ranked second in the ACC in caused turnovers this season and was third on the active players list with 70 for his career.
Giles-Harris garnered the ACC Defensive Player of the Week award after helping Duke go 2-0, including an overtime win over No. 20 Richmond. He collected nine ground balls and five caused turnovers and tallied his first career goal in the two contests. The four-year starter is one of 50 players nationally to record at least four caused turnovers in one game, picking up four against the Spiders.
In his three-plus seasons, Giles-Harris played in 64 career games with 63 starts. He scored one goal and picked up 113 ground balls to go with his 70 forced turnovers.
After playing in 11 games primarily on the man-up offense,
Owen Caputo became a force in the midfield for the Blue Devils. Through eight games in 2020, Caputo ranked second on the team in goals (12) and points (8). He started the season running on the second midfield line, but after five games that line was moved to first midfield. Scoring his first career goal in the season opener, Caputo caught fire starting at Denver when he had three goals and three assists in a victory over the Pioneers. He was named the ACC Offensive Player of the Week following his performance against the Pioneers. He went on to add three the next weekend and three more the following week in an overtime triumph against Richmond.
Duke finished the 2020 campaign with a 6-2 overall record and ranked eighth in the final Inside Lacrosse poll.
