DURHAM, N.C. – Maddie Jenner and
Callie Humphrey represented the Duke women's lacrosse team on the 2020 Inside Lacrosse Media All-America Teams that were announced Tuesday by the publication.
Jenner was named First Team All-America for her performance on the draw control while Humphrey received Third Team recognition on defense. Duke has now had at least one All-America selection in 23 consecutive seasons and totals 33 selections with 101 honors.
"I'm very proud of the hard work that Maddie and Callie put into the 2020 season and I know this recognition will motivate them moving forward," head coach
Kerstin Kimel said. "I am grateful that they will both get this year back and can't wait to see what they will do in the 2021 season."
In a shortened season, Jenner gathered 96 draw controls through nine contests. Her 10.67 draw controls per game ranked second nationally and led the ACC. The Annapolis, Md., native helped lead a Duke team that ranked first in the ACC and third nationally in draw controls per game with 18.78. Even with seven games remaining, the sophomore's 96 draw controls ranks fifth all-time at Duke in a single season. Her fifth-place mark comes behind her sister Olivia's top four spots. The younger Jenner was easily on pace to challenge Olivia's Duke record of 150 draw controls in a single season.
Once described as "like having another coach on the field," Humphrey led the Blue Devil defense with 16 caused turnovers and 18 ground balls. The senior averaged 1.78 caused turnovers a game to rank third in the ACC and help Duke to create 12.44 turnovers a game, which led the ACC and ranked sixth nationally. Humphrey closed out the 2020 campaign with 69 caused turnovers throughout her career, ranking 14
th in program history. In addition, she has gathered 107 ground balls to tie for 26
th on the Duke all-time chart.
Both players began the year receiving Preseason All-America honors from Inside Lacrosse. Humphrey was named Third Team on defense and Jenner received Honorable Mention honors for draw control.
