DURHAM, N.C.—Two names that go hand in hand in Duke lacrosse history are Jimmy Regan and Casey Carroll. While they both came to play lacrosse at Duke from Long Island, they never played together nor knew each other. However, it was Jimmy Regan's death in Iraq in 2007 while he was serving as an Army Ranger that inspired Carroll to take a similar path into serving his country.
Carroll's path from Duke to becoming an Army Ranger to returning to the Blue Devils with a final year of eligibility is well documented and one that is awe-inspiring. He ultimately was a member of the 2013 and 2014 national championship teams, while earning his MBA from Fuqua School of Business and raising two sons.
Read and watch more about Casey Carroll's journey and the inspiration provided to him from Jimmy Regan. Each story has a different angle, but the one steady force is the memory and legacy of Jimmy.

May 11, 2013 | Associated Press: Carroll Eyes Return to Duke Lacrosse
So much has changed for Casey Carroll since he last stood on the Duke sideline during the NCAA men's lacrosse tournament.
The former All-American defenseman is now a husband, father, former U.S. Army Ranger, combat veteran and graduate student hoping to return for a final unused year of eligibility. A knee injury prevented that this year, meaning the 28-year-old Carroll - the last active member of the 2006 team scarred by false rape allegations against three players - will be here for Duke's NCAA opener against Loyola of Maryland on Sunday to feel close to the sport he hopes to play again next year.
"I think it just lets me know that the passion is all still there," Carroll said. "I don't think it ever leaves you."

The men's NCAA Division I lacrosse semi-finals take place Saturday in Baltimore. Duke University is the top seed. One of its marquee players spent four years and went halfway around the world to reach this moment.
No. 37 is Casey Carroll, a star on defense for Duke's lacrosse team. He has been places and done things his teammates can only imagine, and they know it.
Senior Christian Walsh said, "I'm kind of in awe every time he talks, you know. His leadership style is pretty laid back, so when he does speak, everybody listens."
