Haley Gorecki has been named the 10th Duke women's basketball standout to earn United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) All-America honors as she received third team accolades, as announced Monday.
A native of Palatine, Ill., Gorecki turned in another all-around impressive season for the Blue Devils in 2019-20 as she averaged 18.5 points, 6.6 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 2.1 steals. She was the only student-athlete in power five conferences to average over 18.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.0 steals. Gorecki collected seven double-doubles and 12 contests with 20 or more points for the Blue Devils, which ranked second in the ACC.
Gorecki joins Alison Bales (2007), Alana Beard (2004, 2003, 2002), Chante Black (2009), Monique Currie (2006, 2005), Chelsea Gray (2012), Lindsey Harding (2007),
Georgia Schweitzer (2001), Jasmine Thomas (2010) and Elizabeth Williams (2015) as Duke's USBWA All-America selections. Gorecki is the first Blue Devil to earn the honor since Williams in 2015.
A 6-1 guard, Gorecki ranked in the top 20 in numerous ACC categories including second in scoring (18.5), second in steals (2.1), seventh in assists (4.4), third in free throw percentage (85.6), 18th in rebounds (6.6), third in minutes played (36.4), eighth in three-point field goals made (2.0) and seventh in three-point field goal percentage (33.7). Last week, Gorecki earned Associated Press Honorable Mention All-America.
An All-ACC First Team and All-ACC Defensive Team honoree, Gorecki is also one of five finalists for the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award for the top shooting guard in the nation. The winner of this award will be determined by a combination of fan votes and input from the Basketball Hall of Fame's selection committee. The player that wins the fan voting will receive one additional vote for the award.
On the first team was Lauren Cox (Baylor), Ruthy Hebard (Oregon), Ryhne Howard (Kentucky), Sabrina Ionescu (Oregon) and Megan Walker (UConn). Receiving second team accolades was Aliyah Boston (South Carolina), Chennedy Carter (Texas A&M), Dana Evans (Louisville), Aari McDonald (Arizona) and Satou Sabally (Oregon).
Gorecki helped lead Duke to an 18-12 overall record and the best turnaround among power five conferences as the Blue Devils started 1-3 in the ACC, before finishing 12-6.
Joining Gorecki on the third team was Kaila Charles (Maryland), Elissa Cunane (NC State), Kathleen Doyle (Iowa), Tyasha Harris (South Carolina) and Michaela Onyenwere (UCLA).
She finished her career ranking in numerous categories on the Duke record book including 17th in points (1,384), 10th in scoring average (14.3), eighth in three-point field goals made (170), fifth in three-point field goals attempted (526), seventh in free throws made (334), tied for eighth in steals average (1.9), sixth in minutes average (30.7) and ninth in games with 20 or more points (26).
