DURHAM, N.C. – The NCAA announced Wednesday night that Duke redshirt freshman
Mason Eaglin will enter the 2020 NCAA Wrestling Championships as the No. 32 overall seed in the 174-pound bracket.
Eaglin will wrestle the No. 33 seed Phillip Spadafora of Maryland in the pigtail match for a chance to take on top-seeded Mark Hall of Penn State. Spadafora holds a 17-16 overall mark heading into the tournament, while Hall has dropped just one bout this year and sits with a record of 23-1. Both Eaglin and Spadafora will be making their NCAA Championship debut while Hall enters the field as a three-time All-American, three-time NCAA finalist and the 2017 NCAA Champion at 174.
Eaglin heads to nationals with a 26-16 career record. He earned an at-large bid on the strength of a 21-12 regular season record that included a first-place finish at the Battle at the Citadel and Keystone Classic, as well as victories over fellow NCAA qualifiers Neal Richards of VMI and Dean Sherry of Rider.
The NCAA revealed its 33 seeds for all 10 weight classes Wednesday as the championship is quickly approaching and due to start Thursday, March 19 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minn.
