GREENSBORO, N.C. – A trio of Duke women's basketball student-athletes –
Haley Gorecki,
Miela Goodchild and
Kyra Lambert – have been named to the 2019-20 All-ACC Women's Basketball Academic Team, which has been announced by the league office.
Virginia Tech led all schools with five selections, while Clemson, Duke and Georgia Tech each placed three student-athletes on the team.
Gorecki earned the accolade for the first time in her career, after turning in an outstanding season averaging 18.5 points, 6.6 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 2.1 steals for the Blue Devils. She has notched 12 games with 20 or more points, which ranks second in the ACC, while also collecting seven double-doubles. Gorecki, who hails from Palatine, Ill., was an All-ACC First Team and All-ACC Defensive Team honoree this season. A 2019 Duke graduate, Gorecki is enrolled in the continuing studies program at Duke in 2019-20.
A product of Cibolo, Texas, Lambert received the All-ACC Academic Team honor for the third time in her career. The 5-9 point guard has started 21 contests on the season, while averaging 5.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.2 steals. Lambert is attending the Duke Fuqua School of Business, after graduating from Duke in 2019.
For the second straight year, Goodchild earned academic honors. Goodchild, who is from Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, is one of the best three-point shooters in the league hitting 43 on the season. She has also averaged 7.3 points. 2.3 rebounds, 1.1 steals and 1.0 assists on the year.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
