GREENSBORO, N.C. – Duke men's swimming and diving closed out the final day of the ACC Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday at the Greensboro Aquatics Center (GAC).
The Duke men finished 10
th in the competition with 421 points. The tenth-place finish was the lowest finish by a Duke team since 2004 when the Blue Devils placed eighth out of eight teams.
David Hallaron swam a career-best 1:46.41 to barely miss the finals in the 200 backstroke. His time was the seventh best time in Duke history.
The 100 freestyle brought Dukes only 'A' Final qualifier after senior
Miles Williams clocked a career-best 42.53 in the preliminaries to be the top qualifier. The Hong Kong native finished sixth in the final.
Two Blue Devils competed in the 200 breaststroke finals as
Cole Reznick and
Henry Wu swam career best times in the morning preliminaries to qualify for the 'C' Final. Both Reznick and Wu topped their career best set in the morning with times of 1:58.56 and 1:58.57, respectively, in the finals. They moved to sixth and seventh in Duke history.
Although Duke did not have anyone compete in the 200 butterfly finals,
Matthew Whelan and
Nick Talati had record-breaking performances in the preliminaries. Whelan clocked a 1:46.55 to set a new career best and move to second in Duke lure. Talati's career-best 1:47.25 put him fourth all-time at Duke.
Duke finished up the day in the 400 freestyle relay as Williams,
Sheldon Boboff,
Nathaniel Hartley and
Charlie Gingrich swam a 2:53.32, the second-best time in Duke history.
After the conclusion of competition this weekend, the Blue Devils await the NCAA's release of invitation times to see who will represent Duke at the 2020 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.
