BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Duke women's basketball team saw its six-game winning streak come to an end Thursday on the road in Blacksburg, Va., as the Blue Devils dropped a 70-56 decision to Virginia Tech in Cassell Coliseum.

Haley Gorecki added 13, five assists and three steals. Graduate
Kyra Lambert tied a season high with 13 points and pulled down six boards.
After turning the ball over only eight times in the last outing, Duke struggled holding on to the ball in the first quarter committing seven turnovers. The Blue Devils trailed by as many as six early on and saw Virginia Tech leading, 15-11, after 10 minutes. Lambert paced the Blue Devils with five points, including Duke's first three-pointer of the contest.

Joanne P. McCallie to call timeout as the Blue Devils trailed, 26-16. Trinity Baptiste of Virginia Tech scored seven straight points to help with the Hokie run. Virginia Tech extended its lead to 13 at one point and the Blue Devils would go to the half trailing, 37-25.
It marked the first time since Jan. 19 at Clemson that Duke trailed at the half. After being held scoreless in the first quarter, Gorecki scored seven points in the second to pace the Blue Devils. A native of Palatine, Ill., Gorecki reached 500 points for the season becoming just the sixth Blue Devil to collect back-to-back 500-point seasons.
Elizabeth Kitley of Virginia Tech was too much to handle in the first half as she notched 14 points on 7-of-9 field goals. The Hokies hit 55.6 percent from the field in the first, while Duke committed 11 turnovers and hit 38.5 percent.
Duke's defense clamped down on the Hokies to open the third holding Virginia Tech without a field goal until the 6:46 mark. Late in the third, Odom registered six straight points to cut the Hokie lead to 47-43, but Taja Cole drained a three-pointer to end the third to give Virginia Tech a 50-43 lead heading into the final 10 minutes.
The Blue Devils missed six free throws in the third quarter, while Odom and Gorecki led Duke with six points each. Duke featured only one turnover in the quarter, after giving the ball away 11 times in the first half.
Duke got the Hokie lead down to seven early in the fourth, but Virginia Tech drained a three-pointer and the Blue Devils couldn't get the lead any closer.
The Blue Devils committed only five second half turnovers on their way to finishing with 16, while Duke was outrebounded, 31-28. Duke hit only 2-of-11 treys, which is a season low. The Hokies drained eight from long range.
Virginia Tech (21-7, 11-6) was led by Elizabeth Kitley with 19 points and 10 rebounds. The win by the Hokies snapped a 12-game winning streak for Duke in Blacksburg, Va.
Duke will close the regular season Sunday, March 1 as the Blue Devils travel to Chapel Hill, N.C., to face North Carolina at 2 p.m. The game will be aired live on ESPN2.
