GAME DETAILS
- The game will be televised nationally on ACC Network. For fans attending the game, parking is available in the ground lot located off Science Drive.
- Early arriving fans will get a voucher for a free hot chocolate at Friday evening's game. With temperatures expected to dip into the low 40s, a warm beverage will be welcomed.
SETTING THE SCENE
- Duke, ranked 13th in the latest poll, returns home for the first time since Feb. 1 to host No. 20 Richmond Friday night. The game will be televised by ACC Network. It is the first of two games for the Blue Devils this weekend.
- The Blue Devils are coming off a 14-11 setback to No. 7 Penn last weekend. Both Duke and Richmond are 2-2 overall.
THE SERIES HISTORY
- Duke and Richmond have played in each of the past four seasons with the Blue Devils holding a 4-1 lead in the series. The two teams met in the NCAA Tournament first round last year with Duke edging the Spiders, 12-11. The lone loss to Richmond came in 2016, a 12-10 setback at Koskinen Stadium.
- The Blue Devils beat Richmond 11-7 last season, but three of the five games have been decided by two or fewer goals.

TEAMMATES TURNED FOES
- Duke freshman Dyson Williams and Richmond rookie Richie Connell will be on opposite benches Friday after being teammates at The Hill Academy. Both are top scorers for their programs with Connell leading the Spiders with 15 points and Williams ranking second on the team with 12 points.
LACROSSE FOR LIFE
- Duke is one of a host of college lacrosse teams participating in the Lacrosse for Life efforts to raise money to benefit Boston Children's Hospital. A large selection of Blue Devils shaved their heads after Lacrosse for Life announced it had secured a $1,000 donation for every player who shaved his head. The donations will be sent directly to Boston Children's Hospital.
- Lacrosse for Life wants to grow the initiative to be a nationwide competition for a cause. In the future the organization would love teams and alumni to work on raising money and securing donations both from Lacrosse for Life and through connections with teams to donate to a hospital of their choice.
FACING A FORMER BLUE DEVIL
- For the second consecutive week, Duke will face a former Blue Devil on the other sideline in Richmond head coach Dan Chemotti.
- A 2002 graduate of Duke, Chemotti played four seasons with the Blue Devils, helping Duke to a 43-21 record, consecutive ACC Championships in 2001 and 2002 and four NCAA Tournament bids.
- Chemotti is in his seventh season as the head coach at Richmond after helping Loyola win its first NCAA title as the Greyhounds' offensive coordinator.
WHAT GIVES
- Friday night's matchup betwen the Blue Devils and Spiders features Duke's balanced and potentially high-scoring offense against one of the nation's best between the pipes.
- Duke is averaging 14 goals per game, ranking 15th ntaionally, while its .350 shot percentage is 12th in Division I. The Blue Devils will face the test of beating Richmond goaltender Jack Rusbuldt, who is averaging 15 saves per game. Rushuldt has made double digit saves in every game, including an incredible 22 against Notre Dame last weekend. The Spiders are holding opponents to just .280 shooting after four games.
LAST TIME OUT
- Seventh-ranked Penn scored the final four goals of the game to beat No. 10 Duke, 14-11.
- Duke struggled on offense and clearing the ball at times, firing just 28 shots and committing 25 turnovers in the contest. Penn, bolstered by Kyle Gallagher's 17-of-29 day at the faceoff X, took 52 shots on goal, including 16 in the final quarter.
- Owen Caputo led all Duke scorers with three goals, while Joey Manown and Dyson Williams had two. In goal, Turner Uppgren made a season-high 13 saves.
LAST TIME WE MET
- Duke's Nakeie Montgomery and Brad Smith combined for 10 points to lead the second-seeded Blue Devils to a 12-11 victory over Richmond in the opening round of the 2019 NCAA Tournament. Overall, Duke had five different players with at least two goals.
- Trailing 4-3 after a Richmond goal at the 10:53 mark of the second quarter, Duke put the clamps on the Spider offense, holding it scoreless for the next 10:43. Offensively, the Blue Devils caught fire in that span, netting four goals in 1:29 to take a 7-4 lead.
- Momentum quickly shifted in the fourth quarter as Richmond won early faceoffs and scored twice in the first 2:46 to make it 12-9. The Blue Devils stymied the Spiders for the next 10-plus minutes, but couldn't find a way to score themselves, keeping Richmond within striking distance. The Spiders quickly took advantage of Duke miscues, scoring with 56 and 26 seconds remaining to make it a one-goal game.
- In goal, Turner Uppgren made eight saves and collected four ground balls.
LOOKING AT DUKE
- Duke dropped to 13th in the USILA poll this week following the loss to Penn. The Blue Devils are 2-2 overall and 0-1 at home this season.
- The Blue Devils' balanced offense is led by sophomore Owen Caputo's 15 points (8g, 7a). Attackmen Joey Manown and Dyson Williams are right behind him with nine goals and three assists for 12 points. Sixteen Duke players have at least one goal.
- A young defensive corps on defense continues to grow and gel. JT Giles-Harris is the anchor on defense, drawing the toughest matchup. He has nine ground balls and six caused turnovers. Rookie Kenny Brower is the first true freshman to start on close defense since Giles-Harris. Sophomores Braden Burke and Frank Marinello are sharing time to round out the trio on the crease.
- A host of short stick defensive middies and long poles bolster the improving defense. Terry Lindsay is a four-year starter, while Blake Leischow is back for his second season as regular in the SSDM role. Matt Chmil and Jake Caputo are the newcomers to the role, while Will Frisoli and Tyler Carpenter have experienced early success in the LSM role.
- Jordan Ginder and Joe Stein are solid at the faceoff X. They are winning 57 percent of the draws and have picked up 31 ground balls on 66 wins.
- Turner Uppgren has started all four contests and owns a 12.25 goals against average and a .424 save percentage. Andrew Bonafede came off the bench at High Point and Denver and has 12 saves and a 9.96 goals against average and a .522 save percentage.
SCOUTING RICHMOND
- Richmond comes to Durham ranked 20th in the polls and sporting a 2-2 record. The Spiders are coming off a 13-5 loss at No. 6 Notre Dame last weekend. Their wins are over Marist and Navy. Richmond was picked as preseason favorites to win the Southern Conference for a third straight year.
- Ryan Lanchbury paces the offense with 17 points from seven goals and 10 assists. Rookie Richie Connell has a team-best 12 goals and Mitch Savoca has seven goals and 12 points overall. The Spiders are averaging 10.75 goals per game, ranking 46th nationally.
- Kack Rusbuldt is the backbone to the Richmond defense. The redshirt junior goaltender recorded a program-record 22 saves last weekend in the loss to Notre Dame. Ray Baran has the most caused turnovers with nine. Sean Menges is a preseason all-conference pick as an LSM and has seven caused turnovers and 16 ground balls.
- At the faceoff X, Andrew Hamilton has taken the majority of faceoffs, winning 24-of-44 (.545). Ryan Murray is 6-of-25 and Jacob Griffin 10-of-21.
DEFENDING HOME TURF
- Koskinen Stadium has treated the Blue Devils well over the years, being the home to countless memorable moments.
- Since 2007, Danowski teams are 113-23 at Koskinen, an 83 percent success rate. This year's group of seniors is 24-5 all-time in Durham.
