Duke Claims Three Wins but Falls to #3 NC State

DURHAM, N.C. – For the second-straight outing, Duke wrestling registered three individual wins but ultimately fell, 34-9, to No. 3 NC State during the teams' regular season finale Friday night in Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Redshirt sophomore Benjamin Anderson and redshirt freshman Mason Eaglin each earned their second consecutive win when they recorded three team points, respectively, for the Blue Devils. Anderson has now registered four wins in his last five matches, while Eaglin has tallied three victories during that stretch. Anderson defeated redshirt freshman Matt Fields, 7-1, while Eaglin posted a 6-2 decision win over redshirt freshman Tyler Barnes.

Also adding to the Duke final team score was rookie Vincent Baker, who notched his first career dual win. The Roswell, Ga., native took down NC State's Tyrie Houghton in thrilling fashion, 7-6, in the final seconds of their match. Baker jumped in front 6-2, but Houghton battled his way back to tie the score with little time left in the third period. Fortunately, Baker muscled his way out of a takedown to record an escape point and the eventual game-winning point with only a couple ticks remaining on the clock.

Duke shifts its focus to the postseason as its next outing will be at the ACC Championships in Pittsburgh, Pa. on March 8. The Blue Devils will face off against the other five conference schools at the Petersen Events Center. Live video will be available via the ACC Network. Live stats will also be provided.Â
