DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke fencing team is set to travel to South Bend, Ind., for the 2020 ACC Fencing Championship Feb. 22-23, hosted by Notre Dame.

SETTING THE SCENE
- 2020 marks the sixth conference fencing championship since its return as an ACC sponsored sport.
- Notre Dame claimed both the men's and women's team title last season.
- The Duke men own a season record of 15-7 (0-1 ACC) while the women are 11-11 (0-1 ACC) and will face Boston College, North Carolina and Notre Dame for the ACC title.
- In addition to the team competition, an individual tournament will also be held to crown a champion in each of the three weapons: epee, foil and saber.
- The individual competition will take place Saturday, Feb. 22 with the team event to follow on Sunday.
IN THE RANKINGS
- The men's championship will feature two of the top 10 teams in the nation.
- In the CollegeFencing360.com Coaches Poll, the Notre Dame men are No. 5 while the Duke men are No. 10. The Irish women check in at No. 3. North Carolina also received votes for both the men and women while Boston College did in the men's.
LOOKING BACK AT 2019
- As a team, both the men and women placed second overall in the team event. The Blue Devils defeated Boston College and North Carolina with their lone loss coming to No. 1 Notre Dame.
- Last year, Maria Papadopoulos and Zoe Superville highlighted action for the Blue Devils. The duo collected bronze medals in women's epee and foil, respectively, during the individual competition.
- Eoin Gronningsater headlined the individual performances for the men with his fourth-place finish in foil.
FIERCE FOILISTS
SUPERB SABERISTS
- The women's saber squad owns a 16-6 overall record through four regular season meets and are led by sophomore Alex Gorman with 37 victories.
- The men's contingent is spearheaded by senior Agoston Walter with 38 wins as the squad is 14-8 this season.
EXCEPTIONAL EPEEISTS
- The epee squad features three athletes with 30 or more wins this season, led by freshman Danny Campbell III with 37. Sophomores Huda Aldadah and Kevin Chao own 33 victories each.
- The men are 14-8 overall while the women own an 11-11 ledger.
UP NEXT
- Following this weekend at Notre Dame, the Blue Devils will return to Durham to host the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional Saturday, March 7.
