DURHAM, N.C. – Duke men's lacrosse head coach
John Danowski announced
JT Giles-Harris, Terry Lindsay and
Joe Robertson have been selected as team captains for the 2021 season in a vote of the team. Giles-Harris and Lindsay also were captains for the shortened 2020 campaign, while Robertson was selected by his teammates for the first time.
Giles-Harris and Lindsay both returned for a fifth year after their season was canceled abruptly due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Both are enrolled in the Master of Management Studies program at Duke's Fuqua School of Business. Robertson is a senior attackman who missed the 2020 season to an injury suffered during preseason last year.
Giles-Harris, a two-time All-American close defenseman, will anchor the Blue Devil defense again in 2021. Considered one of the top defenseman in the country, the close defenseman enters his final campaign as a Blue Devil with 113 ground balls and 70 caused turnovers. Giles-Harris needs just 19 caused turnovers to break Duke's career record held by Luke Duprey. A starter in all but one game in his career, he was named to the Inside Lacrosse All-America first team last year after compiling 21 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers in eight games. As a junior, Giles-Harris was voted the ACC Defensive Player of the Year and garnered USILA All-America first team recognition. He was a third team pick in 2018.
A key member of Duke's defensive midfield unit, Lindsay is the Blue Devils' consummate leader on and off the field. He has played all 64 games in his career and has 88 ground balls and 30 caused turnovers. Last season, the Bethesda, Md., native collected 11 ground balls and forced four turnovers while adding a pair of goals – his first tallies since his rookie season. Lindsay led all defensive midfielders in both 2018 and 2019 with 31 and 24 ground balls, respectively. Prior to joining the Blue Devils as a freshman Lindsay helped the U.S. U19 Men's National Team to the 2016 FIL World Championship.
Robertson, one of Duke's top scorers in each of his two seasons, returns for a third season on the field needing just 10 goals to become the 21st Blue Devil to amass 100 career goals. A starter in 37 of the 38 games at attack, Robertson registered 48 goals and 12 assists for 60 points in his rookie season. The 48 goals ranked third most by a Duke freshman. As a sophomore, the Charlottesville, Va., native had 42 goals and 59 points overall. He currently ranks tied for 37th in career points with 119.
The Blue Devils recently completed an exciting fall that featured the first season of the Duke Outdoor Lacrosse League. Peithos, with Giles-Harris and Lindsay anchoring the defense, took home the title. Robertson served as the head coach of McSallies.
Duke returns to campus in January to begin practice for the upcoming 2021 season.
